What is it ?
The Photovoltaic Technology Platform is a European initiative which aims at mobilising all the actors sharing a long-term European vision for photovoltaic; realising the European Strategic Research Agenda for PV for the next decade(s) and give recommendations for implementation; ensuring that Europe maintains industrial leadership.
The Platform is an independent and objective body which aims to be the recognised point of reference for key decision and policy makers. The Platform’s Mission is to develop a strategy and corresponding implementation plan for education, research & technology development, innovation and market deployment of photovoltaic solar energy, to realise its Vision.
Composition
4 working groups:
- Policy and instruments : 21 members
- Market deployment : 27 members
- Science, Technology & Applications Group : 25 members
- Developing countries : 17 members
What are the Platform Goals?
- Contribute to a rapid development of a world-class cost competitive European PV for a sustainable electricity production
- Involve stakeholders in the formulation of research programmes
- Ensure strong links and coordination between industry, research and market.
- To implement the strategic plan
How will the Strategic Plan be implemented?
- As a point of reference, the Platform collects, develops, maintains and communicates high-quality, up-to-date information and insights on all important aspects related to photovoltaic solar energy. It publishes reference documents such as the Strategic Agendas and Implementation Plans.
- The Platform communicates intensively with European Institutions, EU Member State governments and other relevant stakeholders to promote a harmonized approach towards accelerated development and large-scale deployment of photovoltaic solar energy.
- The Platform proactively establishes working contacts and cooperation with other Technology Platforms, international organizations, interest groups and networks where this is appropriate.
- Specifically, the Platform recognises the paramount importance and potential impact of the 2009 EU Renewable Energies Directive and the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan), and works together with the European Photovoltaic Industry Association on the 2020 agenda.
